SSC JE Eligibility Criteria
Every candidate should satisfy the eligibility criteria if he/she needs to appear for this paper. Without satisfying the eligibility criteria for SSC JE exam, one’s candidature will be cancelled on the later stages when found. The basic age criterion for the SSC JE 2021 Exam is mentioned below.
Nationality
To be eligible for the SSC JE exam, candidates should meet the Nationality requirements decided by the Staff Selection Commission. The details of which are as follows:
- Candidate must be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan.
- A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1st, 1962 with an intention of staying permanently in India.
- An Indian who migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma and East African countries with an intention of permanently settling in India.

SSC JE Application Fee
- Candidates need to pay an application fee of INR 100.
- Candidates can submit fee through online and offline mode.
- Download the SBI Challan for the offline payment and for online payment, candidates can use Net banking, Debit Card, and Credit Card.
- SC/ST/PH and Female candidates are exempted from the payment of Application Fees.

A.Written Test (500 marks)
B. Document Verification
Filling the SSC JE Application Form
- All the eligible candidates should fill up the SSC JE Application Form as soon as possible first.
- First Register on the official website with Email Id and Phone Number.
- Then enter your personal details, educational qualification and all other details asked for along with the photograph and signature in the prescribed format and pay the application fee.
- The candidates must keep 2,3 print outs of the duly filled SSC JE Application Form for further reference.
A. Written Test:
- Written test will consists of two papers viz Paper -I and Paper-II.
- Part I will be Objective type questions for 200 marks and Paper II will have Conventional type questions for 300 marks.
- Time duration for each paper will be 2 hours.
- Answer- sheets of Paper-II (Conventional Type) will be evaluated in respect of only those candidates who qualify in Paper-I at the standard as decided/fixed by the Commission at its discretion.
- There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I.
B. Document Verification:
- Only those candidates who secure at least the minimum qualifying marks in the written examination as may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion, will be eligible to appear in the Document Verification.
- Candidates who qualify for Document Verification will be recommended for appointment by the Commission on the basis of total marks in the Written Examination and Document Verification.
C. Resolution of Tie Cases:
In cases where more than one candidate secure the equal aggregates marks, tie will be resolved by applying the following methods one after another:-
(i) Total marks in written examination.
(ii) Marks in Paper-II.
(iii) Marks in Paper-I.
(iv) Date of birth, with older candidates placed higher.
(v) Alphabetical order in the first names of the candidates appear
D. SSC JE Document Verification
Document verification will be based on candidates’ marks in Paper 1 and 2 exams.
- The admission is provisional is subjected to their satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions.
- At the time of verification if any candidates do not fulfill any of the eligibility conditions, His\Her candidature will be canceled by the commission.
E. SSC JE Medical Examination
- To make sure that the applying candidates are medically fit to carry out the duties properly, the candidates will have to pass the requisite medical fitness test(s) conducted by the concerned department.
F. Final Selection and Allotment to Various Posts
After the above stages are completed successfully, they will appear for the final stage of the SSC JE selection procedure i.e. final allotment. As per the marks, ranks will be allotted to candidates. Allotment to the various posts will be done amongst the candidates on the merit list. The posts to be offered by SSC under Participating organizations i.e. Central Water Commission, CPWD, Department of Post and MES are:

SSC JE Exam Pattern | SSC JE Study Material PDF
- SSC Junior Engineer examination consists of two papers. The candidate should clear Paper 1 first in order to be eligible for Paper 2.
- Candidates who successfully qualify for both the exams will be Participating in the recruitment process and shall be on probation for a period of 2 years.
- During the probation period, Candidates would require to undergo such training or pass an examination as prescribed by the Controlling Authority.
SSC JE Exam Pattern 2021: Tier 1
- The SSC Junior Engineer Paper I examination is an objective type CBT (Computer Based Test) with a total of 200 questions.
- Each question carries equal marks which means Paper I carries a weightage of 200 marks.
- Paper I is further divided into three sections.
- These sections are General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 Marks), General Awareness (50 Marks), and Technical Section i.e. Civil & Structural Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering (100 Marks).
- Paper I will be computer-based objective type test.
- Paper I will be conducted for 200 marks for a time duration of 2 hours(2 hours 40 minutes for Scribe candidates).
- There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks.
- Questions will be set both in English & in Hindi.

SSC JE Exam Pattern – Paper II | SSC JE Study Material PDF
- The exam pattern of SSC JE Paper II includes descriptive-type questions.
- This Paper has a weightage of 300 marks.
- There will be three parts i.e. Civil & Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
- Candidates will attempt only one of these parts based on their graduation stream.
- A composite time of 2 hours will be allotted for this descriptive type paper.
- There will be no negative marking of SSC JE Paper II.
- Questions will be set both in English & in Hindi.
- You should choose your subjects for Part-A, B, and C keeping in mind the post you are applying for. Candidates are allowed to appear for any one of the Part i.e. either Part A/Part B/Part C.

- At the time of filling the SSC JE Application Form, candidates are asked to give two to three options for the exam centre.

How to Calculate your SSC JE CBT marks?
The Candidates must be aware of the process on how to calculate the marks from the answer key and compare it with their cutoff to have a better understanding of their chances of selection.
- The total number of questions asked in the Computer based online test (CBT) is 200 for 200 marks
- The total marks for each correct answer is 1.
- 0.25 negative marks for an incorrect answer
- Total number of marks = 1*Total number of correct answers – 0.25*Total number of incorrect answers.
SSC JE Cut Off
The SSC JE Cut Off 2021 is released by the SSC JE after the preliminary exam has been conducted. The SSC JE Cut Off changes each year depending on a variety of factors. These factors include:
- The first factor that plays a large role in finalising the official cutoffs is the number of vacancies available for the post.
- The total number of candidates appearing for the exam are also considered while setting the cutoffs. This ratio plays a large role in finalising the qualifying marks.
- The difficulty level of the exam in the recruitment stage is a major factor that determines the official cut off stats.
