The specialty of this fast is that it emphasizes on worshiping nature. This fast is mainly observed for the long life of the children, good health, family happiness and prosperity and for the attainment of desired results. The Sun God and Chhathi Maiya are worshiped during this fast.
This fast which starts with Nahay Khay ends with offering Arghya to the rising sun on the fourth day. Along with fasting, worship material is also considered to be of great importance in this fast. पांच गन्ने जिसमें पत्ते लगे हों, पानी वाला नारियल, अक्षत, पीला सिंदूर, दीपक, घी, बाती, कुमकुम, चंदन, धूपबत्ती, कपूर, दीपक, अगरबत्ती, माचिस, फूल, हरे पान के पत्ते, साबुत सुपाड़ी, शहद का भी इंतजाम कर लें. इसके अलावा हल्दी, मूली और अदरक का हरा पौधा, बड़ा वाला मीठा नींबू, शरीफा, केला और नाशपाती की भी जरूरत पूजा के लिए पड़ती है. इनके अलावा शकरकंदी और सुथनी लेना न भूलें. मिठाई, गुड़, गेंहू और चावल का आटा और घी की भी व्यवस्था कर लें.
