Assam Tea Gardens 97 News Schools Will Open Next Month : Assam CM – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that for the first time government high schools are being set up in tea gardens, of which 97 are scheduled to start the academic session next month. Addressing the teachers and principals of these newly constructed schools in an orientation programme, Sarma said that in order to enhance the academic atmosphere in tea gardens, the state government has decided to set up 119 model high schools in these areas.
Of these 119 schools, 97 have been completed and the academic session will begin from May 10. The remaining schools will start functioning by the next academic year, the chief minister said.

He said the state government is going to set up 81 model high schools in tea garden areas and these will be upgraded to higher secondary level. Sarma said that apart from mid-day meal, the government is also planning to provide breakfast to students in these schools. He said that teachers are being appointed in two categories in these schools — one is teachers appointed exclusively for these schools, and the other set includes those who are already transferred from provincial schools to these schools.
