List of IIT Colleges in India 2022 – Latest Updated List Of all IITs – The first Indian Institute of Technology was established in Kharagpur in 1951. As of May, 2022, there are a total of 23 IITs across India, iiTs are centrally government-owned public technical institutions, governed by the Institute of Technology Act, 1961, which states their powers, duties and structure for governance and also declares them as institutions of national importance.
The administration of these institutes is controlled by the IIT Council and each IIT is connected to the others through this General Council. The Education Minister is the ex-officio Chairman of this Council. As of 2022, there are 23 IITs with 16,234 seats for the undergraduate programme.
