World Heritage Day 2022 :18 April 2022, List Of Key Points To Know – World Heritage Day is observed on April 18 every year to spread awareness about the history, diversity and conservation of vulnerability of World Heritage Sites and Monuments. This special day symbolizes our understanding of the rich culture and traditions that are worth preserving. This day is celebrated to give an important message to the younger generation to carry forward our heritage and protect our culture. It also intends to recognise the efforts of all such people as architects, engineers, geographers, civil engineers, artists and archaeologists, who contribute to the preservation of heritage.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has designated a total of 1155 monuments in 167 countries as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Heritage Sites In India :

  • Did you know that there are 3691 protected monuments and sites in our country which includes World Heritage Properties and 50 Sites and Museums under UNESCO?
  • The cultural World Heritage Sites in the country include Taj Mahal, Hampi, Ajanta and Ellora Caves, Sun Temple, Sanchi, Rann Ki Vav, Hill Forts of Rajasthan and the list is in progress.
  • Whereas, the natural heritage sites include the Western Ghats, great Himalayan National Park, Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary, Sundarbans National Park, Nanda Devi and Valley of Flowers National Park and much more.
  • The largest number of protected sites falls under Uttar Pradesh (745), while Karnataka (506) is in second place.
