The total number of sanctuaries in Andhra Pradesh is 13 (thirteen). A sanctuary is an area that is of substantial ecological, faunal, floral, geomorphological, natural or zoological importance.
“Sanctuary” means declared area, whether under section. [26(a) 5] or considered under section 38 or sub-section (3) of section 66, which is to be declared a wildlife sanctuary. The sanctuary is a protected area reserved only for the conservation of animal and human activities. The boundaries of sanctuaries are not well defined and controlled biological intervention is allowed.
