Eligibility Criteria of the OPSC

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: candidates must have obtained an undergraduate degree from any recognized University.
  • The aspirants should read, write and speak in the regional language that is Odia.
  • He/she must have passed in Odia as a Language subject in middle school
  • Students should complete their Class-VII education from a School or Educational Institution recognized by the Government of Odisha
  • Candidates must have cleared a test in Odia in Middle English School Standard arranged by the School & Mass Education Department of the Government of Odisha,
  • Cleared HSC or equivalent exam with Odia as the medium of examination.
Nationality Candidates must be a citizen of India
Number of attempts
  • Candidates belonging to General Category must note that they are eligible for only four attempts.
  • Candidates belonging to Socially and Educationally Backward Classes should note that they are eligible for seven attempts. An appearance in the Prelims exam is also termed as an attempt.
  • There is no cap/limit on the number of attempts for candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ PwD
Application Fee
  • The candidates appearing for these exams need to pay a non-refundable and non-adjustable amount of INR 500.
  • SC/ ST candidates of Odisha and persons having 40% disability don’t need to pay the application fee.
Age Limit  The minimum and upper age limit to appear for Odisha Civil Services Examination is as –

  • The minimum age limit to appear for the exam for all categories is 21 years.
  • Candidates belonging to General category must note that the upper or maximum age limit to appear for the exam is 32 years.
  • Candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC/ ST/ BC/ Women must note that the upper age limit for these categories is 37 years.
  • Only the Date of Birth available in the High School or Class 10th Certificate shall be considered.

Stage I- Preliminary exam

  • This stage includes 2 papers, objective type (MCQs) will be asked.
  • Paper I- General Studies (maximum marks 200)
  • The merit list of the test takers will be finalized based on their marks in the Paper I.
  • Paper-II: Paper 2 includes aptitude questions and weightage is 200 marks. Paper 2 will be qualifying in nature and it is mandatory for the candidates to get a minimum of 33% in the Paper-II else their Paper I will not be evaluated.

Personal Interview

  • The candidates for the personality test are selected on the basis of the marks secured in the mains exam.
  • The personality test is held for 250 marks.
  • The final list of recommended candidates will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the Mains exam and the personality test.
