K.Chengalarai Reddy (Mysore) of the Congress was the first Chief Minister of the State of Karnataka. Reddy served as chief minister (CM) from October 25, 1947 to March 30, 1952. Karnataka was imposed president’s rule 6 times, the most recent being from November 20, 2007 – May 29, 2008. The state of Karnataka was formed on October 25, 1947. Since its formation, the state was known as Mysore, which was renamed Karnataka on November 1, 1973.
