Covid 4th wave unlikely in India, says IIT Kanpur professor
Iit Kanpur professor Manindra Agarwal said that a fourth wave of Covid is unlikely as no new mutant has come to the notice of the authorities. His mathematical model was used as a reference point to understand covid activity and behaviour in the country in the last two years.
He said the impossibility of the fourth wave is also due to the fact that the natural immunity against coronavirus in people is above ninety per cent. He also said that mathematical models show that the increase in cases will not last long.
Prof. Agarwal said the rising number of cases in Delhi NCR is due to the lifting of restrictions in the region. “Recently, schools have opened and people have stopped using masks, so the risk for variants has increased. But it will not have any serious impact on people’s health as the immunity to the current version is strong. ”
The national capital recorded 517 Covid cases on Sunday, while the positivity rate was 4.21 per cent. No death has been reported during the day. With these new cases, the infection tally in the city has risen to 18,68,550, while the death toll has gone up to 26,160.
The professor said the restrictions imposed by the Uttar Pradesh government will have an impact in reducing Covid cases as studies have shown that cases come down even with minor restrictions.

- Who is already tracking two sub-variants of the omicrons BA.1 and BA.2, which are the two most dominating variants in the world right now.
- Who says it is important to keep an eye on the two new sub-variants of corona, as there were additional mutations in them. In such a situation, more studies need to be done to know their ability to escape from immunity
