List of 12 Fake Universities Closed Since 2014: Dr. Sukanta Mazumdar, Minister of State for Education, told Lok Sabha that the government has shut down 12 fraudulent universities since 2014. States should act against the 21 bogus universities identified on the UGC’s website.
“Maintenance of law and order is a subject matter of state governments,” he said when asked about the government’s operations against phony universities. He said the central government has ordered the chief secretaries of all states and union territories to close the 21 fraudulent institutions and take action against those who defraud and cheat students by calling themselves “universities,” awarding degrees, and using “university” in their names.
